Occult Man
Occult science reveals the true facts about the spiritual and material nature of Man
Occult science teaches that Man is a god in the making. It is the destiny and heritage of every man and woman to return to the Divine Source from which they first emerged, enriched with the knowledge and experience gained during their many lives on earth. One of the primary benefits of the study of the occult sciences is to acquire the hidden Knowledge and Wisdom of the Ages that leads to enlightenment and liberation from re-birth on earth.
Many occult and mystical teachings have different and conflicting ideas about the material and spiritual nature of man. Some divide man into three, five, seven and more parts. Others employ a multitude of comprehensible and many more incomprehensible terms to describe and classify these separate principles according to the various systems they follow. Adding to this confusion, are the various cognitive psychological concepts of 'unconscious', 'preconscious', 'conscious', 'ego' and 'superego' minds which each school interprets in their own way.
A deep study of the occult sciences dispels this confusion by teaching students the true facts about Man's material and spiritual nature. As the student's understanding of the individual components of his nature and their various qualities grows, he has the opportunity to put this knowledge to practical use, to benefit himself and others in ways no scientist, biologist or psychologist can dream of. He will then know exactly what 'body', 'mind', 'soul' and 'spirit' really are, what the so-called 'astral body' is and which of these various principles survives death.
It is quite impossible to answer these questions in a short discussion like this. The study of the occult man is the work of a lifetime. Teachers who attempt to explain the material and spiritual nature of man in a few short weeks or months, or by means of diagrams and monographs, however detailed, do themselves and their students a grave disservice. There are a host of subjects which must be studied before we can have a glimmer of the true constitution of Man as a spiritual and material Being. These subjects include: the secrets of the glands and nerves, the nature of consciousness, the Astral world, safe and sensible methods to awaken the memories of previous lives on earth, the functions of the sacred centres within the human body, the Aura and how to see it around yourself and others, Karma, material and spiritual evolution, and a host of other important and vital studies.
Some of you may be familiar with the famous soliloquy from Shakespeare's Hamlet in which we may read: "What piece of work is a man! how noble in reason! How infinite in faculty! In form and moving how express and admirable! In action how like an angel! In apprehension how like a god!" This description is echoed in the Books of Hermes in which we may read:
"Increase thyself unto an immeasurable greatness, leaping beyond every Body, and transcending all Time, become Eternity, and thou shalt understand God: If thou believe in thyself, that nothing is impossible, but accountest thyself immortal, and that thou canst understand all things, every Art, every Science, and the manner and custom of every living thing. Become higher than all height, lower than all depths, comprehend in thyself the qualities of all the Creatures, of the Fire, the Water, the Dry, and Moist, and conceive likewise, that thou canst at once be everywhere, in the Sea, in the Earth. Thou shalt at once understand thyself, not yet begotten in the Womb, young, old, to be dead, the things after death, and all these together, as also times, places, deeds, qualities, quantities, or else thou canst not yet understand God.
"But if thou shut up thy Soul in the Body, and abuse it, and say, I understand nothing, I can do nothing, I am afraid of the Sea, I cannot climb up to Heaven, I know not who I am, I cannot tell what I shall be: What hast thou to do with God? For it is the greatest Evil, not to know God."
These are true words, true for all time and for all men and women, unpalatable as it may be to those who believe that material science holds the answers to the great mysteries of life and death. In the degree that we learn who and what we really are, strive after real knowledge and wisdom, and dispense kindness and compassion to all we encounter, so shall we draw nearer to God, who is the greatest scientist of all.
As we said earlier, it is the destiny of each one of us to rise from the lowest plane—this earth—to the Higher. But this can only come about through a deep study of the hidden laws and principles which govern ALL material and spiritual existence; laws of which material science knows almost nothing. Once these laws and principles are learned—and mastered by the diligent occult student he will find that there is no question that cannot be answered; no knowledge that cannot be acquired by the simple application of these same laws and principles. In this way, his entire nature is gradually transformed, leading to a higher state of awareness which is beyond all description and human comprehension. This then, is a brief glimpse of the real nature and potential of man, such as you have probably never read before.
